How to be heard in Mt. Lebanon

The process for getting something in front of local government isn't obvious — even to people who follow it closely. Here's how decisions actually get made in Mt. How decisions get made

Mt. Lebanon is governed by a five-member Commission — one Commissioner elected from each ward — with a Municipal Manager who runs day-to-day operations. Motions, ordinances, and resolutions are introduced and voted on by Commissioners. Residents can't file a motion or resolution directly; the way things move is by persuading a Commissioner to bring them forward. Knowing that is half the battle. Find your ward & Commissioner.

Know which meeting is which

• Regular Commission meetings— 2nd & 4th Tuesdays, 8 p.m., in the Commission Chambers. These include a citizen-commentssegment: step to the microphone (or use “raise hand” online), state your name and address, and speak. This is where the public can address the Commission directly.
• Discussion Sessions— 2nd & 4th Tuesdays, 6:30 p.m., in the Caucus Room. The public may attend but not speak; it's where the Commission prepares. Great for seeing what's coming.

Your paths to influence

1. Speak during citizen comments at a regular meeting (above).
2. Contact your ward Commissioner directly — they're the person who can put an item forward.
3. Build visible support — a concern with many verified neighbors behind it is evidence a Commissioner can act on.
4. Attend Discussion Sessions or apply to a board/commission to catch issues early.
